Posted on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in California Red, Domestic Red, Red, Wine

Committed to Biodynamic farming and dedicated to artesian winemaking, Quivira showcases the unique characteristics of Dry Creek Valley that flow openly from vine to wine. Quivira is a fully functioning Biodynamic farm complete with animals, vegetable gardens and Biodynamic preparations prepared on site. Their philosophy is simple. “We don’t make wine here at Quivira. We grow wine.”

Ruggedly enigmatic and powerfully built, Zinfandel is the reigning celebrity of Dry Creek Valley. Dark and complex, the 2008 Quivira Dry Creek Zin has an undeniably appealing personality. A wine of great depth of flavor with juicy red and black fruit aromas, the mid-palate is plump, framed by supple tannins that add finesse to the lingering finish. Great with anything off the grill and especially good with pizza and spicy cuisine.

And the label…that’s Ruby the pig. Ruby, who has been a resident of Quivira since she was a young piglet, greets all visitors to the winery, and has become a celebrity unto her own right.

Sulfite Free, Organic

After trying out several organic vineyards over the years, we are focusing in on Lodi Zinfandel. Here, one will find a wine that intersperses white pepper on the tongue with a medium weighted body– a very adaptable wine that can be can be enjoyed with all types of food or on its own. This is not a high alcohol, prune and jam job but rather a blackberry classic style Zinfandel profile.

It’s great with tomato sauce dishes.
